Hung Shui Kiu

The Brief

The Civil EngineeringDevelopment Department (CEDD) works on planning and various majorinfrastructure development projects across Hong Kong. One project they’ve beenworking on is the Hung Shui Kiu / Ha Tsuen New Development Area – a newmega-metropolis near the border between Hong Kong and mainland China – in theNorth West New Territories.

This new town coveringsome 441 hectares looks to accommodated a population of around 185,000, andwill comprise of public and private housing, parks, recreation and pedestrianzones, a town centre replete with plazas and other commercial buildings, andaims to boost fresh job opportunities as a new hub for professional andlogistics services.

New road and transportsystems will also be incorporated, and this includes a Green Transit System(GTS).

The CEDD wanted aconsultation video to introduce the GTS to the public.

Urbis, which works withinternational construction companies on landscaping for big developments, commissioned Lime* to do the shoot.

The video needed to bevery concise and detailed to explain to the public what the proposed projectwas and how it would look.

Creative & Production

Lime* usedmixed media for the video: 3D, real drone footage and 2D graphics as thiscombination was the most realistic way to envision the project.

The idea was to createwhat it would look like so that the public could watch the video and if theyhad any issues or queries, they could consult with the government.

We worked with severalcompanies: A crew in Amsterdam who did shoots for us because they already havea light rail system there, while another crew in China shot other footage forus. We also worked closely with the 3D guy, and had extensive 2D.

We had footage comingfrom around the world, were working with the CEDD and Urbis, and with anothercompany called AECOM – so we were working with three companies simultaneously, each with different stakeholders in the project, to come up with what we thinkis a really gorgeous looking video.

We spent months working with designers and everyoneinvolved to create an accurate representation of the project and to explain itin a way that the public would easily understand. It ended up being a yearlongproject for us.
